Are you risking disaster by not being prepared? It’s already happened in Chernobyl and now in Japan. It’s going to happen again. This site is designed to give you a few quick hints and tips to help keep you prepared in the case of a nuclear meltdown or bomb. What take a few minutes now to read may end up saving your life someday. Start protecting yourself and your family from an emergency or natural disaster.
Step 1: Get Supplies
Learn how to stay alive during a nuclear disaster by having simple information like what survival kits and emergency supplies you may need. Without this stuff, your likely better off being caught in the ground zero blast then anywhere nearby. This is largely due to invisible radiation that can cause sickness, cancer and even death your. It destroys your body, your food and environment around you quickly and silently. This radiation is released through a process called nuclear fusion. One of the first things that should have nearby is a product called Potassium Iodide which is available as Iodide tablets and they work by protecting your body and filling your Thyroid with an already naturally producing substance called Iodine. Known as anti-radiation pills, Iodide Tablets do not allow your body to absorb more radioactive iodine from an outside source because your thyroid is already full. I would suggest that you to research exact dosages and proper amounts. Having a bottle or these pills around can immediately help protect you and your family if a nuclear disaster happens in your area. Radioactive clouds are capable of travelling the globe in a few days and affecting entire land masses.
If you have to leave your place in a hurry, it it a smart idea to have an emergency survival kit also known as a “Go Bag” This is bag that you leave near your door that contains everything that you need to survive for a few days. These kits have first aid supplies, small amounts of food, candles, masks and many other practical things. This allows you to leave your home or office if needed. It is also a good idea to store some spare cash and a copy of important documents such as home ownership and personal identification. In many cases of disaster death’s the fatalities happened because people were in shock and did not know how to react to the situation around them. Sometimes the best plan is simply to just act and do anything, rather than stay and shock and do nothing. By having this kit around, one of your first instincts will be to go for the bag and exit if needed. Even if you become trapped within your home from something like an earthquake or Tornado. Having an emergency survival kit beside you is a good start.
Step 2: Have an Emergency Exit Plan
Shelter in place is a common term in emergency management. It means that in the event of an emergency, one of your best options is usually to lock your doors, cover windows and survive in your home until help can arrive. In the event of a flood or hazmat spill, you could be required to stay in your residence for up to 72 hours or even longer. This means that you need to stock certain supplies around the house just in case. These are simple things such as duct tape, simple tools, candles, lighters and batteries. If you take medicine, you should be keeping supplies of that medicine for an extra 30 days when possible. Flashlights, soap, first aid and a whistle are also good examples. Keep food products that have a long shelf life stocked such as water, peanut butter and white rice. You should also have an emergency and disaster supply kit that you can keep in the home or garage. It contains many items needed for survival that are kept in a portable bag ready to go. The small investment now could save your life later.
You should create a simple evacuation plan. It doesn’t have to be very complicated, just pick a place in your home that is the most secure. This could be a basement, a bathroom tub or place with reinforced walls. Just make a mental note of it and remind yourself and your family from time to time. It would also be advisable to pick another location outside in case of fire or a dangerous gas incident in the house. These are referred to as HAZMAT or hazardous material emergencies.
Most people don’t react when they are in shock. A terrifying experience like a Tornado or Earthquake can happen very fast. How you react in the first few seconds saves more lives than anything else. Having locations in mind of where to meet or take shelter is exactly what you need to react and start moving. It is never a bad idea to make arrangements with a family member or close friend that if something should happen in your area, they call you within 12-24 hours. The emergency phone lines can get become tied up when a disaster happens. Having someone looking out for you that can report you as missing is very important, especially if you are incapacitated.
